Laurel Loomer has been a practicing attorney since 2012.
I did not start out as a lawyer. I went to college for dental hygiene, graduating in 1996. Later I went back to school and got a new type of dental hygiene license: Dental Hygienist in Alternate Practice (R.D.H.A.P.) This allowed me to work independently as a dental hygienist. It allowed me to go to nursing homes and treat residents with dental hygiene care. This was a wonderful business, which I love and still spend some time doing to this day. It is challenging work, but very rewarding. I love treating the elderly and disabled. While working with the nursing home residents, I learned about conservators. Conservators are people who act on behalf of people who cannot act for themselves. Conservators are appointed by the court. Usually, someone is nominated to protect the person (called the conservatee). Now, as a lawyer I have found a way to combine both my love for the law and my desire to continue to help our ever increasing elderly population to make sure they are allowed to live out their lives in dignity and security.
